In a statement, US-based sportswear brand Nike and Amazon stated that the latest changes in customs legislation were effective in the decision and that the impact of these changes on the shopping experience was examined.
World-famous sportswear brand Nike announced that it has suspended its online sales in Türkiye in a statement published on its website on Friday.
The company stated that it stopped its orders due to the recent changes in the customs legislation in Türkiye and stated that it was examining the impact of this change on the shopping experience.
30 percent tax on products coming from the EU and 60 percent tax on products coming from outside the EU
With the decision published in the Official Gazette dated August 6, the customs tax on products whose value does not exceed 30 Euros (1099 TL) coming from European Union (EU) countries was increased from 18 percent to 30 percent.
At the same time, it was decided to apply the same tariff for pharmaceutical products that do not exceed 1500 euros.
If these products come from countries outside the EU, a tax of 60 percent will be collected per purchase.
The decision, which was previously set as “goods whose value does not exceed 150 euros”, was changed to 30 euros.
Following the changes in customs legislation, Temu reduced the base shopping amount for product shipments to Türkiye to 670 lira. It was claimed that foreign stores serving through Amazon also started to end their sales to Türkiye.
