Eid al-Adha is a culture of social solidarity as a religious offering around the world. Sacrifice skins provide added value to the economies of countries around the world.
Social solidarity, which has become a religious culture as a sacrifice in various religions, aims to share the meat of the livestock’s (cattle, sheep) to the poor as a religious ritual. With the Islamic religious culture, the feast of sacrifice is the feast of social solidarity.
As important as the meat of the sacrifice is, the importance of the skin and its economic added value should also be emphasized.
Recommendations for the right cut:
- The first priority of sacrificing sacrifice is to be slaughtered by competent people.
- Sharp cutting blade
- The livestock’s (cattle, sheep) eyes should be blindfolded with a cloth so that it cannot see the cutting tool, i.e. the knife.
- The livestock’s (cattle, sheep) must not be frightened.
In this way, priorities for religious, cultural and social assistance are fulfilled as priority items.
How to Skin a Sacrifice?
- First of all, contact of the outer surface of the skin with the meat should be prevented.
- Hide is started with the feet, then the torso and finally the head.
- When skinning ovine animals, a small hole is made in the wrist. By inserting a hose through this hole, the skinning process can become easier. Air is supplied under the skin with the hose. You can skin the skin with small rips that are given air.
- The same process can be applied to cattle. Step by step, you can separate the meat and skin with skinning knives.
- An easy way to skin the victim is to hang the animal by its legs. The skin can be easily removed with small blows down the legs on a hook or the skinning process can be carried out with a machine.
Salinization of the skin and its importance;
- The skin should not be salted immediately.
- After the skin has rested, the inner surface of the skin is covered with a layer of crystallized salt, which may not be very thin or very thick.
- Within 6 hours it must be salted.
- Then the leather should be folded inwards so that the hair side is outside.
- Leather should never be kept in a plastic bag.
- Raw leather must be able to be stored in its untanned state without spoiling, and must not be ruined on the way to the tanneries. Otherwise, it may go cheap or end up in a landfill.
It is acceptable to donate the skin of the Qurban to a charitable organization. The skin is not sold, but if it is sold, the money can be donated to a poor person. Or if it is donated to a charity, the price must be given to a poor person.
