Manuel Rios Navarro, who will once again lead COTANCE, the confederation of European tanners’ associations, has published the COTANCE 2024 Manifesto, outlining key demands for the EU.
On May 15th in Brussels, the General Assembly unanimously re-elected Manuel Rios Navarro to continue guiding COTANCE for the next two years. Manuel Rios Navarro is also CEO of INPELSA, the leading Spanish sheepskin tannery based in Valencia. He holds the highest position within Europe’s leather industry since 2021.
The COTANCE Presidency will be shouldered by Vice Presidents Fabrizio Nuti (Italy), Jean Christophe Muller (France) and Rino Mastrotto (Italy).
Delegates from Italy, France, Spain, Germany, the UK, Portugal, Hungary, Italy, France, Spain, Germany, the UK, Portugal and Hungary also adopted the COTANCE Manifesto 2024, outlining the main demands for the EU in view of the upcoming European elections and the appointment of a new legislature, as well as the new legislative term.
Manuel Rios, President of COTANCE: “I am proud of the trust I have received from my colleagues to lead our industry in these complex times and I am happy for the support of my colleagues in the COTANCE Presidency. We will not hold back in our efforts to ensure that our EU authorities know the needs of our companies. The Manifesto we adopted today summarizes the needs of our industry from Europe in 3 points and 10 measures. Let us use it widely so that our political leaders in the EU and at home understand what we need. We cannot afford to take more keys in the works. What we need is support, not attacks!”
The manifesto was published under important headings;
Leather is an excellent example of a circular economy product. It is produced as a by-product of the food industry. Tanners transform the hides and skins of animals slaughtered for meat consumption into a durable product.
