On the catwalks of Latin America, SAPICA MEXICO, the Leather and Footwear Show celebrated its 50th anniversary with a leather fashion extravaganza on the Laferc Tannery catwalk.
SAPICA, the trade fair of the Leather, Footwear, Bags and Fashion industry, which took place from 05 to 07 March, celebrates 50 years of experience in its 90th edition. Sapica Mexico took place with exhibitors from the footwear industry from America and Latin American countries. With the participation of artists from the fashion industry such as Abel López, Cynthia Buttenklepper and IannDey, their products were exhibited on the catwalk. Thanks to the business partnerships between the textile, leather and footwear industry, it is among the important steps of the sector in Mexico.
At the 50th anniversary celebrations at Lefarc Tannery, the most sustainable tannery in Mexico, the presentations of the Fashionistas were presented as a step forward in the leather industry. Lefarc Tannery was also the first tannery in the USA to be awarded a gold medal by the Leather Working Group in 2008 and the only tannery in Mexico to have a laboratory accredited by SATRA.
The visual show of Mexico’s famous brand CUADRA with its leather boots was at its peak. CUADRA, as a prestigious brand that stands out with its artisanal quality and designs, is reflected in every detail they have the work of expert artisan hands with their originality considering the exotic naturalness in their products.
Mexico’s footwear industry exports between 32 and 35 million pairs; the US is one of the main consumers of Mexican footwear with 95.9%. Last year, Mexico produced 209 million pairs, reaching 30 million pairs in exports and 120 million pairs in imports.
Daniela Reyes de Luna, President of SAPICA, said: “We are now trying to delve deeper into the concepts of sustainability or artificial intelligence so that they can be included in our event. Collaboration between companies and designers is also very important so that they can be integrated into the main macro trends.”
In this edition of its 50th anniversary, SAPICA brought together more than 2000 brands, calzados and marroquines. The first edition of the ever-growing SAPICA took place in 1974 and today, 50 years after this dream began, SAPICA has managed to rank among the 10 largest and most important fashion fairs on the planet, achieving 120 million imports in 2024.
